Projects

During the last 25 years The Engineering Quest has been pushing the boundaries of mechanical engineering convention with some surprising results. We have a knack of making the impossible possible through innovative process design.

Heavy-duty Prosthetic Joints for Chas Blatchford and Sons

Housing Flow Control Valves
for Honeywell

Around 20 years ago, The Engineering Quest was approached to make part of the de-icing system for SAAB aircraft that were originally manufactured in the 1960s and 1970s. Our client was Honeywell, and our role was to make housing for flow control valves.

Offshore Drilling System Valve
for a UK based Oil and Gas Client

In a project that pushed the boundaries of what can be manufactured, The Engineering Quest worked with a UK based Oil and Gas Client to develop a valve for an RSS system. Our brief was to create the component in two sizes, to precise tolerances that were tightened still further as work progressed.

High-Precision Optical Telescope Casing
for Surrey Satellite

We were asked to develop a machining process for a titanium assembly within a space-based optical telescope. The aim was to provide the dimensional stability and precision that would support this level of accuracy when the assembly was subjected to high g-forces and large temperature variation.

Long-range Fibre Optic Saddle
for Nortel

The Engineering Quest was asked to manufacture a tiny component that would allow long-range fibre optic technology to transmit vast quantities of data over thousands of miles. A tiny component with huge significance in today's technology.

Heavy-duty Prosthetic Joints
for Chas Blatchford and Sons

Developing a heavy-duty titanium spring with the same dimensional characteristics as an existing carbon steel spring. The aim was a state of the art prosthetic device that would mimic the weight and movement of an able-bodied limb and enhance the mobility and comfort of amputees throughout the world.

Ophthalmic Instruments
for a UK based medical company

In June 1998, a UK based medical company contacted us with an urgent request. Could we help them make high volumes of ophthalmic instruments with the right quality, replacing time-honoured methods with a mass production alternative?
